There are many causative factors of eating disorders including emotional disorders, family disputes or problems, obesity, biologic factors, genetic factors etc.
6 Common Causes of Eating Disorders
Genetic Factors
You may have symptoms of an eating disorder like bulimia or anorexia if you have a family history of eating disorders. A few research studies have found that brain chemicals are responsible for causing eating disorders in some people.
People with eating disorders tend to have higher levels of cortisol and vasopressin. The levels of these two hormones shoot up when a person goes through the emotional and physical stress.
Sudden Life Change
People experience difficulty in accepting any kind of major change in their life. They think that their life will go on smoothly without undergoing any change. This type of thinking develops due to lack of security and lack of strength and courage to face the future boldly.
However, when such people face major changes in their life, they do not know how to react or how to deal with such situations and turn to mindless eating. They are always on the lookout for ways to escape from their problems. They do not care to think about the consequences of eating disorders.

Family Problems
Conflicts are a part of family life and all of us should know how to deal with them. But some people take their family problems too seriously and in turn lose control of their minds.
Sociological Factors
Today?s youth gives in to societal pressure easily and if he or she decides to go against his or her society then he or she is alienated from his or her society.? Every individual has a tendency to compare himself or herself with his or her friends.
He or she can go to any limits to be considered a part of his or her group. Hence, sociological factors are also one of the causative factors of eating disorders like anorexia or compulsive overeating.
Psychological Factors
Factors such as depression, loss of confidence, low self-esteem, feeling worthless etc. can also lead to eating disorders. A person going through these psychological factors experiences difficulty in finding the right way to cope with their problems and tends to make the wrong choices. Some people indulge in overeating to deal with their problems.
Traumatic Incident
A person can also have eating disorders if he or she had experienced a traumatic event at some point in his or her life. Traumatic events can trigger bad emotions and can make a person turn to overeating.
You should remember that eating too much or too less is not a solution to your personal or professional problems. This will make your condition worse instead of better. You should make sincere efforts to find the correct approach to successfully deal with your problems. There is never a need to change yourself for someone else; therefore, you should not change yourself just to please someone else.
